Premature Skin Aging
The biggest part of the skin aging process (approx. 80%) is related to the influence of the sun. The energy-rich ultraviolet rays impair different skin layers. UV-B rays can lead to damages in the epidermis, e.g. the formation of so-called sunburn cells, when the damages cannot be corrected by the skin’s own repair mechanisms. UV-A rays can cause damages of the dermis leading to crosslinking of collagen fibres. They may also induce the damage of the extracellular matrix (ECM) that is amongst other things responsible for the cell-to-cell communication and the development of new sustaining fibres.
